Two New Corporate Pro Bono Challenge℠ Signatories

We are pleased to announce the latest additions to the Corporate Pro Bono Challenge℠: International Paper Company and Marathon Oil Company.  The legal departments of these companies have become the latest corporate legal departments to sign onto the CPBO Challenge℠, developed by Corporate Pro Bono, a global partnership project of the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Pro Bono Institute.

Congratulations to Maura Smith, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, International Paper Company and Sylvia Kerrigan, Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Marathon Oil Company for further strengthening their company’s commitment to pro bono by signing the CPBO Challenge℠.

The CPBO Challenge℠ is designed to empower corporate legal departments to identify, benchmark, and communicate their commitment to pro bono service.  As part of the Challenge, Chief Legal Officers encourage and promote pro bono service by their legal department staff and use their best efforts to encourage at least one-half of their legal staff to support and participate in pro bono service.  In addition, Chief Legal Officers encourage outside law firms with whom they work to acknowledge publicly their support for pro bono by becoming Signatories to the Pro Bono Institute’s Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge®.  The goals of the Challenge are aspirational and attainable for legal departments of all sizes in all stages of development.  All Challenge Signatories receive information, guidance, and tailored support, free of charge on a confidential basis, from CPBO to strengthen their existing pro bono programs or start new ones and to help them meet the Challenge’s achievable and meaningful goals.  To view the full text of the CPBO Challenge℠ or to find the complete list of CPBO Challenge℠ Signatories, visit www.cpbo.org.
