The Pro Bono Wire
July 30, 2014
“On July 25, CPBO co-hosted its 50th Clinic in a Box® program! This milestone is an excellent opportunity to look back at the history of one of CPBO’s key initiatives and its transformation over the years. Designed in 2003, the Clinic in a Box® program provides pro bono opportunities for in-house counsel. These half-day legal audit clinics provide in-house counsel the opportunity to advise nonprofit organizations or small businesses while earning CLE credit. Co-hosted by legal departments or ACC Chapters around the country in partnership with law firms and public interest organizations, the “off-the-shelf” program offers in-house volunteers the opportunity to provide meaningful pro bono services to organizations in need.
When first launched, CPBO exclusively hosted the program at the ACC Annual Meeting. Within two years, CPBO expanded the reach of the model to include local ACC Chapters. In 2005 and 2006, CPBO hosted programs with the St. Louis and Colorado ACC Chapters, respectively. In 2007, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company**became the first legal department to co-host a clinic.”
