Minnesota Clinic a Repeat Success

CPBO flew to Minneapolis once again last week to host a Clinic in a BoxSM.  For the third consecutive year, CPBO, Dorsey & Whitney LLP*†, and the Minnesota Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (MNACCA) teamed up and, for the first time, were joined by co-host MAP for Nonprofits.  Convening at Dorsey & Whitney’s downtown office, 29 eager in-house attorneys provided pro bono legal advice to ten Minnesota nonprofits.

The Clinic began with a training session led by nonprofit experts from Dorsey & Whitney. The training session prepared volunteers to guide nonprofits through a legal audit. Presenters provided a general overview of governance, employment, taxation, and other legal topics relevant to nonprofits.  Volunteers participated from a number of nearby legal departments, including Medtronic, Inc.**Target Corporation,UnitedHealth Group Incorporated**, and U.S. Bancorp**.

After the training session, MNACCA members were divided into small teams and assigned to a local nonprofit.  The participating nonprofits provide the Minneapolis community with valuable services, such as mental health counseling, family services, educational services, and a variety of other community support initiatives.  One nonprofit representative commented that the Clinic was a “fabulous event due to its informative nature, which will ultimately provide great value to my organization.”

The PBEye is proud of the Minnesota in-house community’s continued commitment to pro bono and grateful to host firm Dorsey & Whitney.  You may also contact CPBO Director Eve Runyon to learn more about Clinic in a BoxSM.
