What kind of news can I find?
CPBO features articles, press releases, and pertinent information of interest to pro bono volunteers and pro bono programs.

What are the basics?
If you do not make any selections to refine your search, your search will return all news articles in the CPBO database. However, you can limit your search to return only certain types of news, news originating from a certain geographic area, news published in a certain date range, or news containing certain keywords.

Keywords
Enter a word or phrase into this field to search for news items that contain these keywords. You may also do an advanced search by using the "AND", "NOT, and "OR" terms, and by using the "*" and "?" wildcards.

example: Lowenstein will find items with the word Lowenstein
example: Lowenstein Hudson will find items that contain either the word Lowenstein, the word Hudson, or both words.
example: Lowenstein AND Hudson will find items that contain both the word Lowenstein or the word Hudson.
example: Lowenstein NOT Hudson will find items that contain the word Lowenstein but do not contain the word Hudson
example: Lowenst??n will find items with the word Lowenstein, but also items with the word Lowensteen and Lowenstien.
example: Lowenst* will find items that contain any word that begins with "Lowenst," like the words Lowenstein or Lowengrad.

News Type
You can specify that your search return only Articles, Announcements, Highlights, or Press Releases. If you do not specify a news type, your search will return results from all news types.

Date range
You may enter a date into none, one, or both of the date fields. If you do not enter any date, your search will return all news items, regardless of when they were published. By entering a date into the "Published On or After" field, your search will only return news items published on or after that date. By entering a date into the "Published On or Before" field, your search will return only news items published on or before that date. If you enter a date into both fields, your search will return all news items published between the two dates - for example, between 07/27/2002 and 08/05/2002.

Please note that you must enter the date in the mm/dd/yyyy format - for example, 07/27/2003.

Location
If you are searching for news items in the United States, you can refine your search to return only news originating within 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles of a certain zip code. You do not need to enter a city, select a state, or select a country to run a zip code search. In fact, the zip code search normally returns better results if no city and state are specified.

Users outside of the United States, and American users who do not want to specify by zip code, can specify news items that originate in a particular city, state/province, and/or country. If you specify a city name, the search will return only news items originating in that city. It will not return news items originating near that city.

You do not have to specify a geographic area to search for news items. If you do not specify a geographic area, the search will return news items regardless of their origin. In fact, most searches will not benefit from specifying a geographic area, because most news items are not location-specific.
